Prince2 Training: The Facts
The meaning of Prince2 is Projects in Controlled Environments, version two. It is a method of project management that was created in the late 1980s as a government standard for IT. The original version became widespread inside and outside the IT industry, with version 2 designed for a general system. These courses are a popular way to get ready for the accreditation exam, which is now the mainstream standard for both public and private sector.
Format of PRINCE2 Training
Prince2 provide a structure for project management. For those involved, the aim is to establish defined roles, and to delineate all of the different stages of the project. These courses are focused on eight main processes, which in turn are divided into 45 sub-processes of a different nature. Every phase has key points and goals to aim for, enabling simple evaluation and efficient resource distribution. The standard framework means that participants are clear about their own roles, and those of others involved.
Prince 2 courses concentrate on goal delivery, unlike some other courses, rather than on activities and procedures. The methodology of PRINCE2 is in the public domain, although it is considered normal to learn it through a training course in order to maximise the benefits.
PRINCE2 is fully scalable: because some processes will be unnecessary in many projects, particularly smaller ones. Each step contains information about what quantity should be applied in any situation. This method is quite flexible and can be tailored to suit a specific project, rather than rigidly being designed to fit all aspects at once.
It has been described as ’structured common sense’, a method formalising timescales, responsibilities and optimising resources. Prince2 has areas that are not covered such as budgeting, managing people and risk management. It could therefore be infered that it is a tool better suited to those with a measure of project management experience rather than someone with no experience at all.
